How To Prepare For GATE 2021 Examination ?

GATE is India’s national entrance test for engineering for admission to MTech students and PSU recruitments. This exam is conducted every year by IIT. Every year different IIT centers get the opportunity to conduct it. It is a Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering.  


GATE Examination 2021

The GATE exam is a 3-hour test. This year IIT Bombay will conduct this test. Due to this COVID-19 pandemic, the eligibility criterion is also relaxed. It would be a computer-based test. New exam centers have also been added. Students in the last year of graduation can also apply for this test. 


GATE Application Form 2021



The application form for the GATE examination has been uploaded by IIT Bombay on the official website gate.iitb.ac.in. For applying for the exam, one needs to register at the Gate Online Application Processing System by gate login. You need to fill up all the required details and upload the documents asked. Then, you need to pay the fees for the exam. The last date to register is 30th September 2020 and the registration will begin from 14th September 2020. If you get late in filling the application form, you will have to pay an extra fee of Rs.500. Then, you can download the GATE examination admit card around 8th January 2021. 


GATE Examination Date 2021

The GATE examination would be conducted by IIT Bombay in 2021. It would be conducted from 5th to 7th February and 12th to 14th February 2021. The admit card would be released from 8th January 2021. 



GATE Examination Pattern

The GATE exam is a 3-hour exam. Due to the pandemic, it would be a computer-based examination. It would have 65 questions constituting a total of 100 marks. 

It would have multiple choice questions and numerical answer type questions. There would be 10 questions for general aptitude. 

Marking scheme: For 1mark multiple-choice questions, 1/3 marks would be deducted for a wrong answer. For 2 mark multiple-choice questions, 2/3 marks would be deducted for a wrong answer. There is no negative marking for the numerical answer type question.

GATE Examination Eligibility

  • Indian candidates or students from Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore, U.A.E can apply.
  • Candidates who have completed their bachelor’s in any relevant science subject or master’s in any science subject can apply.
  • Candidates who are in the last year of their UG or PG course can also apply.


GATE Examination Fees

The application fee for general category students(male): Rs. 1500/-

The application fee for women and SC/ST category: Rs. 750/-

The application fee for international students (Dubai and Singapore): USD$100

The application fee for international students (Addis Ababa Colombo, US $50

                                                                                   Dhaka and Kathmandu)
